If I could change careers today - I would become a Marine Biologist. I am
facinated by the depth and breadth of our great oceans. The oceans are one
of the few environments left that we know very little about because of their vast size
and depth. I would enjoy discovering different types of creatures, plant and
animal life; and conducting research on how we can make ocean ecosystems
healthy again.
Job Description:
Marine Biologist study and learn about the health of the world's oceans and
animals that live in them. They observe how the marine ecosystem grow
and how humans have impacted their health.
Career Pathway:
Natural Resources
Working Conditions:
Marine Biologists are required to work outdoors and often times
explore deep below the ocean.
Earnings:
The beginning annual salary is $46,440.00. The long term potential
can reach up to $105,000.00!
Education:
The educational requirements for a Marine Biologist
includes a lot of Math and Science courses and a
4 year university degree. A post graduate or Masters Degree
will increase my earnings.
Outlook:
Demand for qualified Marine Biologists will increase over the next
10 years as we continue to explore the oceans for plants and creatures
with medicinal value. And, we will want to create legislation that will
protect more and more fish species that are in danger of going extinct
due to over fishing.
